Joy Faith Einheuser: January 22, 1968 – May 9, 2016
Joy was a late bloomer when it came to having a pet of her very own. Her first baby arrived in the summer of 1998 in the form of a Chocolate Labrador named Buckley. Prior to that she tolerated my love of exotic snakes but did not share my passion. “That’s how cool she was”. From that point on her love of dogs became a passion. I’m certain cats, birds, pot bellied pigs, etc. would have found a home at our house had I not been allergic to their dander.
We soon took in an English Mastiff our nieces named Zoe that was in a desperate situation. Than came Brutus another English Mastiff in need of help. After that came Shirley a terrier mix, yet again in need. Those four dogs became the foundation of her first pack. Throughout Joy’s rescuing and care were many, many other dogs in need that she would finance their care and/or rehabilitation including, Hogan, Toad, Blaze, Tyson, Amber, Moxie, Boomer and too many others for me to remember…..Joy had a passion for animals and always wanted to help.
Joy was a cancer warrior for the better part of two years and called myself and our two “fur” kids, Hank and Sadie, her family. Throughout her journey, she never stopped mothering us insisting that she “butter their bread”. “Butter their bread” was our term for feeding the dogs……our dogs always knew who buttered their bread. In lieu of flowers Joy’s wish was that a donation be made to Lapeer’s Adoptable Animals. Friends and family were incredibly generous during her visitation and memorial leading Wendy and the LAA board to create a spay and neuter program in her honor. I look forward to being a part of this program and continuing the legacy of her love for animals.
Respectfully yours and loving husband of Joy,
